With scheduled flights disrupted due to Covid-19, in June 2020 a travel agency asked us to assist with a crew rotation for several oil companies drilling in Angola and Namibia.
Travel restrictions made it difficult to fly to Africa, so we were under pressure to secure permits and ensure the charter went ahead.
Our Solution
Route: Amsterdam > Angola > Namibia > Angola > Amsterdam
Aircraft: Boeing B737-800
This was a complex crew rotation involving several companies, with many workers travelling from Europe to Angola, some flying between Angola and Namibia, and others flying home to Europe after months out in Africa. The client opted to charter a Boeing B737-800, which had capacity for 100 passengers and was more cost-effective than a wide-bodied aircraft.
Our experienced team worked closely with the client and the Angolan and Namibian civil aviation authorities to submit the correct paperwork for the charter to go ahead, obtaining official passenger lists and ensuring we adhered to all regulations. When it looked like Namibia’s travel restrictions might prevent a crew rest stop in Walvis Bay, we also liaised with the operating airline to arrange a back-up plan to layover in Cape Town if needed.
