Delivering sensitive cargo to West Africa
In May 2023, an engineering company asked us to arrange a dangerous goods aircraft charter to transport an MRI magnet from a factory in China. The sensitive cargo was refrigerated in liquid helium, which evaporated during transit, meaning we had just seven days to deliver the shipment to its final destination in West Africa. With no direct flights, we sprung into action to find a solution.
Our Solution
Route: Zhengzhou > Liège > Conakry
Aircraft: Boeing B747F
A Boeing B747 was the only aircraft that could transport a consignment of this size, so our team leveraged their local contacts to quickly find one with availability for the charter.
The cargo was located at a factory in southern China, where airports are reluctant to handle dangerous goods, so we routed the flight from Zhengzhou in the north instead.
As there were no direct flights to Conakry, we decided to transit through Belgium and complete the customs formalities there before delivering the goods to their final destination.
