Moving 27 tonnes of uranium mining equipment

We were asked to help move 27 tonnes of uranium mining equipment from Canada to Namibia. The heavy and outsized cargo was needed urgently and transporting it by sea freight would take too long, so we needed to quickly find an air charter solution for the time-critical request.

Our Solution

Route: Toronto > Windhoek

Aircraft: Boeing 747-400BCF

We reached out to operators and were able to source a Boeing B747-400BCF from air cargo management company Magma Aviation. This converted freighter was one of the only aircraft that could move such a heavy and outsized load the distance required.

The client initially wanted to transport the equipment in consignments that were far too large to fit onboard, so we liaised with them to agree on more suitable packing dimensions.

We worked directly with the consignee to secure landing permits as quickly as possible. On the day of the flight, the cargo was loaded using a K-loader and departed without a hitch.

The Finer Details

Flexible Solution: The final packing list was unconfirmed at the time of booking, so we made sure we sourced an aircraft that was big enough to accommodate extra cargo if needed.

Rapid Response: We found the ideal solution within an hour of receiving this time-critical charter request.
