Rushing an 18-tonne part to Pakistan
We were tasked with helping to expedite an outsized piece of equipment weighing 18 tonnes, which needed to get from China to a power plant in Pakistan before operations ground to a halt at huge expense to the client. With no commercial flights available, we set about arranging an aircraft charter to deliver the hefty load in time.
Our Solution
Route: Ürümqi > Karachi
Aircraft: Ilyushin Il-76
Knowing there are only a few aircraft capable of transporting such a heavy piece, we drew on our strong operator relationships to secure a viable solution. Within hours, we’d sourced an Il-76 with availability for a last-minute charter flight.
The client originally requested to depart from Chengdu, however we recommended Ürümqi as a more cost-effective option. With no 20-tonne high loaders at the airport, an alternative plan was needed to load the cargo.
Liaising with the aircraft operator and airport handlers, our cargo experts arranged for the piece to be loaded securely onto a trailer, which was raised level with the cabin on a platform before the consignment was slid into the aircraft.
Everything ran smoothly and the cargo arrived in Pakistan in good time, averting a costly operations crisis for the client.
